Warning: Hot sauce may make hot poop.

When I started this blog, I had the intention of sometimes writing about interesting patient stories. I have never done it because I worried about patient confidentiality. I figured if I didn't give any info that would identify them it would be OK. And what are the chances they will read this... Still, I have stayed away from it. But, I have decided to write about this one.
The other day a mother called to tell me that sometimes her two year-old has what he calls "hot poops." In addition, it makes his bottom red. She has noticed that when he eats spicy hot Cheetos or hot sauce from Taco Bell this happens. You can imagine that I wanted to tell her "Then don't give him spicy hot Cheetos or Taco Bell hot sauce! And, by the way, why on God's green earth are you giving him that anyway?" What I really said was, "Maybe he should stay away from those spicy foods." She said, "But he likes them. When he goes to Taco Bell, he says, 'I want some of that spicy hot sauce." I told her, "Tell him you are the mommy and the answer is 'No'. What I wanted to say was, "If he told you he likes to shoot up heroin and wants to drive the car would you think to tell him no?"
